Pregnancy/Motherhood

Pregnancy and Motherhood are a part of many women’s lives…according to a 2005 report from the Center for Disease Control, 82.5 million women in the U.S. are mothers. So, whether you are pregnant with your first, your sixth, or you are just enjoying the one's you have; you are not alone. Women all around you are managing the realm of pregnancy and motherhood through the good days, the not so good days, and of course the bad days. With pregnancy and motherhood comes an array of physical, emotional, relational, and spiritual changes. Some of these changes are hormone induced, some occur because you meet new moms and form new friendships, and others occur because you have new priorities (playing now takes the place of reading a good book). Your relationship with your significant other also changes and communication becomes very important. Each mother experiences different stressors and lifestyle changes. Being a mother is both very rewarding and challenging at the same time.

With motherhood comes a gamut of new tasks such as, trying to find your child’s other shoe (or blankie, or doll, or backpack), or fitting time in for friends and significant others on your already long “to do” lists, or coping with feeling of frustration and/or guilt.  We live in a world that is face paced and expects a lot from mothers. Awareness of feelings such as guilt, depression, anger, and frustration, is important.

Counseling can be helpful as you navigate these changes and feelings by offering support to you, individually or with your significant other.  Motherhood does not have to be stressful or difficult. Through counseling, you can learn to identify and utilize helpful coping skills so that you can have more moments of joy, contentment and peace.
