Depression |
|
Depression is one of the most common psychological problems affecting nearly everyone through personal experience or through depression in a family member. Each year over 17 million Americans adults experience a period of clinical depression. Depression is not only a feeling but also a medical disorder of the brain with very specific signs and symptoms like other illnesses. Symptoms often include disruption in sleep patterns, altered appetite, sense of guilt, hopelessness, fatigued, lack of interest in activities, and at it’s worse, feelings of the desire to die or harm oneself. Often times anxiety accompanies depression. In fact, most mood disorders present as a combination of anxiety and depression. Surveys show that 60-70% of those with depression also have anxiety.
